Early in 2017, CS3DP organizers circulated a survey to inquire about standards, practices and workflows for 3D preservation. It was circulated widely and had over 100 responses. The most important result was that 85% of respondents wanted to work together to find solutions. The organizing team wrote a proposal to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) which was awarded, and work began late in 2017. The first forum occurred in February 2018 where working groups were established. Working groups continued intoForum 2 which occurred in August of 2018. That forum helped working groups to define scope and they began the development of chapters in earnest, continuing through 2020. The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) will publish the monograph in early 2020. The next step in the process is to research and explore the recommendations in practice, and finally wide implementation of the recommendations, taking the work of the CS3DP deep into the 20’s.
